Using Sonic Grid

The parts of Sonic Grid you cannot learn by looking at them: what each publish state shows to other people, the gestures in the editors, how a site is put together, and what you can ask Jam to do. Every screenshot is captured from the app itself.

How Sonic Grid is organized

Sonic Grid has two halves. One is for listening and reading: the feed, and everyone’s tracks, posts and sites. The other is the dashboard, where you make your own. You move between them all the time, so it helps to know which one you are in.

Listening and reading

These pages share a rail down the left side. It is the same on every one of them, and it is how you get back to the dashboard.

The rail
HomeThe feed: what the people you follow, and everyone else, have published.
ListenA room that plays picked public tracks, one after another.
ExploreBrowse people and their work.
SpacesGroup conversations around a subject.
CreateStart a post, track, video or collection.
LibraryWhat you have saved.
ActivityLikes, comments, follows and messages about you and your work.
JamThe chat that can find, make and change things for you.
DashboardYour own work.
N starts something new
On any page with the rail, pressing N opens Create, as long as you are not typing in a field.

The dashboard

The dashboard has no rail. Everything is reached from one menu at the top left, which shows the name of the page you are on.

Each area in the menu has its own tabs, which appear along the top bar once you are in it.

What you can make

Create offers four things. Each opens in its own editor, and each has a publish state that decides who can see it.

TrackA song with pictures laid along it. Made in the track editor.
PostA poster, a piece of writing, an event, a gallery, merchandise or gear.
VideoA video post, or a motion graphic you build and export.
CollectionA playlist, an album or a zine that gathers tracks and posts.

Whatever you make shows up under Content in the dashboard. Whether anyone else can see it depends on its state, which is the subject of the next page.
